Like a lot of people I was watching the Oscar Awards tonight for all the 2008 films. The format of the show was pretty well done I thought with things like the musicals and old winners talking about the current nominees.
Of course, as you all may know too Slumdog millionaire won the best motion picture category. Kind of cool how a movie with a very limited budget compared to other big feature productions has accomplished a lot huh? The story telling aspect of the presentation of the Oscar show in general was interesting too.
It is still ways to go I thought until we see any mainstream Asian actors become serious contenders for items like the best actor award.

One thing that helped during my new agency search was the demo reel I thought. As you may all recall, I decided to go for a different direction to make it a little more entertaining and it seems that it has done a better job in capturing the viewer’s attention.
Now the question is though whether or not this one will work when it comes to casting directors too. Ironically though, I originally created it for casting directors as the reel itself is only about 3 minutes long and many times reels made for agents a scene itself can be 2-3 minutes long.
They should have some of actor demo reel showcase here in some kind of event. I’m sure it would be a great way to learn from others as well to see what makes you attentive to an actor’s reel.

So I have been continuing to think which agency to go with and I think I will probably make the switch on Monday. The switch isn’t going to be risky as I know it will definitely be a better option than I am currently with. By the looks of it, it looks like I am going to have to phone in to the casting workbook to make the switch too.
Although I am currently a bit tied up with another situation and so maybe I’ll have to wait until Wednesday to do it. This should be an exciting change for me though as I have a lot of big hopes for this year and hopefully the new agent will play a big role with that.

So I got a phone call from another agency I was talking to before and I never heard from them in awhile. Usually when this happens I assume I have gotten the cold shoulder. However, the person phoned me wondering what was happening as they were interested in having me come on board. So apparently there was some miscommunication. That basically gives another option.
The main dilemma at this point is either the newer agent who seems really nice and down to earth to me vs another agency that is more established and was specifically recommended to me from a person who is “in-the know”. If it was like trying to find a job it’s almost like interviewing with all the employers where I am being accepted for all of them.
One of them seems very nice with a good opportunity for growth since they just opened up this particular side of the business which can mean more focus to promote you. Whereas the other one has already established itself and so while initially it might start off more consistent for you in terms of results the future result may not be as fruitful as they have more people to deal with.
Choices…..choices. What to do and how to really narrow down the choice. I just don’t want to make the mistake like I did with my current representation where they didn’t do much for me where it has been almost a year. I wouldn’t want to go through another year of that scenario because as much as I do to make things happen for myself I know signing with the right agent will help immensely.

Alright, so I went for the agency interview today and it was definitely fun and relaxing since as I mentioned I had a working relationship with them before. In general, we just talked a bit about my goals and what I wasn’t satisfied with when it comes to the current agent that I am represented with. As well, I did one monologue and one scene read through.
I actually learned some interesting tings too as the agent was telling me that she knew that I was hard working and reliable person as when it comes to background work she told me that I already have a good relationship with the casting directors as I get specific calls from them. That was a very encouraging thought I must say.
Besides that, an interesting topic came up about me possibly joining the union to a certain capacity to help further my career. So decision making time soon. Although, I probably will go with this choice.
