Writers That Think They Are Actors

Actor Growth No Comments »

This was such an interesting take when it comes to acting out what you read on the script I thought. During the workshop one of the coaches mentioned that many times when you read a script there are a lot of actions in it. Example, saying that the character is happy, sad, breathing heavily, etc.

She then used an example on how many times you have to ignore those and simply just do it based on what you think the character would do as the direction makes no literal sense. The example she gave was reading a script where the direction is something along the lines of “His heart begins to beat heavily and pounds his chest”. She was like “How the heck are you suppose to act that?”

It was kind of funny too I thought as that is correct if you think about it from a literal sense. But basically, that is an example of how when you read those types of actions on a script you should think of it more as a guidance as oppose to thinking that you must follow it. She labeled that as the moments where writer’s think that they are actors. Wonder if any writer’s would take offense to that.

A Mind Boggling Audition

Actor Growth No Comments »

I went to the audition today and initially there was actually no one there. I figured that I would wait awhile incase people were just late. Sure enough, people came afterwards. When I first saw the crew for some reason the looked extremely familiar.

Afterwards, I also saw some of the props that they had in the studio and then it hit me. I actually worked with these guys before on a music video that should be out shortly. Anyways, with that cleared up I was given the script.

It was kind of awkward though as the material they had me read for had descriptions such as “A 20 Hispanic Man” and the person I did the reading with was a female and she read the male roles. I then discovered that this film was for one of those 72 hour film competitions and so I was guessing the reason for oddness is that the script was subject to change.

Interesting experience though.

Received Sides For A Short Scene

Actor Growth No Comments »

While checking my e-mail today I noticed that I was sent some sides to do a scene over the weekend. It was kind of interesting as I was reading it over and it is definitely a mellower scene than what I normally would get.

Interestingly enough, there are very few lines too which means this is the type of scene where you really have to sell yourself by using proper facial reactions. As well, you really have to “listen” to what the other person is saying to you.

I wonder how this will turn out.

Apparently It Is Going To Be Crazy Busy

Actor Growth No Comments »

I talked to the person today and apparently a big reason why he wanted to contact me again about my situation regarding principal representation is that it is suppose to get very busy over the next few weeks here in Vancouver and now is the time for agents to have their talent ready.

Therefore, he wanted to clarify if I was still interested in the agency as if I am this is the time to get everything settled down to prepare for potential work. I do have that casting director workshop to go to still on the weekend, so this month is already becoming very active for me.

This should be good news for everyone though as I’m sure it can only benefit everyone if everything starts to pick up.

A Very Jumpy Situation

Actor Growth No Comments »

I received a phone call today in regards to contacting a person who I have spoken to in the past in regards to principal representation. I will be contacting him tomorrow as apparently this should be a serious conversation.

It sure makes my situation kind of confusing too as I thought that I would be settled down by now in terms of going to any agency interviews. Guess I can’t really complain as the more doors that are open the better.

Although, I would rather just focus in going to auditions and acting in various films.
